System Design covers both the software and hardware requirements. The functions or processes are changed into programmes or sets of programmes. Sometimes a commercial package is readily available to deal with the process or with a few adjustments can be made to fit the task. If the system is built from scratch, then the software is the starting point, but if the company already have hardware available then the software must be compatible.
Various physical options of the hardware are drawn up. When the choice has been made a hardware layout plan of the required system is put together. This should be expanded into a non-technical description containing: · Hardware quantities and capabilities
The options should cover all agreed conditions and needs of the proposed system. After discussion, one of the options is chosen.
