A One-way link is a link to one site from another site which does not receive a reciprocal link in return from the first site. One-way links send a message to search engines, that your website is so valuable or interesting or useful that other sites want to tell people about it.
One-way links increase link popularity - this is the number of pages linking to a website. Search engines such as Google place huge importance on link popularity when ranking your site. Google frowns upon sites which "overdo" reciprocal links. Heed his warning and try to make as many of your links as possible one-way links.
How to get one-way links
One way links can be generated in a number of ways;
- Create a useful content. Where content is of use to other sites you will find that other sites will naturally link to it. This is often known as organic, or natural, linking
- Submit your site to major directories in the appropriate category. Many directories do not require a link back.
- Locate industry-specific directories and submit your site to them.
- Get listed in business directories.
- Submit articles to article directories. These are articles that other internet users may find of use. The article directories link back to your site.
- Publish articles on your site and invite other sites to publish them on their sites, with a link to your site as an acknowledgement to the author.
- Participate helpfully in forums which allow a text link to your site in a signature. Note that some forums will require a number of posts before the link becomes active, be an active participant.
- Buying text link ads on other sites, this can be costly.
- Buy ads in newsletters on your topic which are archived online.
- Create a blog and get it listed in blog directories.
- Join business associations which list their members' sites online.
- Get your white papers published on other web sites.
- Syndicate your material to other sites. Create a content syndication feed (RSS feed) and include a link to your site.
One way text links do not come easy, certainly they are more difficult to come by than reciprocal links, or other arranged links. They require work to get. As part of our virtual webmaster service we can work to obtain one way links.
