As part of the process of creating your web site we will optimise the site in order that it loads in as quick and efficiently as possible. we will consider a number of factors when undertaking this task.
Broadband with its faster connection and data transfer speeds is becoming more widely available, and adopted by many internet users. There are however a large number of narrowband (dial-up) users which still has a relatively slow connection and data transfer rate.
| Connection Method | Speed | Relative to Dial-Up |
|---|---|---|
| Dial-up | 56 kb/s | 1 |
| Broadband | 512 kb/s | x10 |
| Broadband | 1 Mb/s | x20 |
| Broadband | 2 Mb/s | x40 |
| Broadband | 8 Mb/s | x160 |
Research has shown that internet users are only prepared to wait around 15 seconds for pages to be loaded and complete in the web browser. When a page is designed for exclusive broadband use with a reasonable load time, the narrowband user may be greater than 10 times longer to wait for the page to load. Where the download time is too great the user (and potential customer) will leave the site, with the result of a lost potential customer.
As part of our development process we provide speed optimisation so that all pages load in less than 15 seconds for narrowband users (and ultimately much faster for broadband users). A general rule of thumb is that each page should not exceed 50kB.
Check your connection speed with our online tester.
The inclusion of graphics on your web site may be good to look at, however these items are time consuming to load into the users' web browsers. The solution is to use fewer or smaller graphics, which are then optimised to remove redundancy within the graphics file.
To increase download time many users have graphics turned off, so it is important for the correct use of the "alt" text for the graphic. This too is important for the issue of accessibility.
As part of the optimising of the web page we consider how the search engine will view the web page.
In order to provide the optimisation we will ensue that;
As part of the optimisation cycle we will test the entire site to check that all of the pages developed for you work correctly. There are a number of check we will make, including:
